The major achievement of humanity which has directly led to our current success has been our ability to communicate and thus socialize and cooperate in a highly effective manner. There will come a point when a single mind is no longer capable to producing anything original or useful and only a collection of minds can be productive. A natural barrier to this evolutionary step is the selfishness and greed that exists in all humans. Capitalism encourages greed and selfishness (and individuality) and thus enforces this barrier, our society will not progress under capitalism, we will hit a steady state at equilibrium and die off rather quickly. Communism doesn't work either because it has cracks in it where greed and selfishness are allowed to take root and ultimately the underlying principals of communism very quickly get destroyed. The only solution as I see it is to change the very nature of humans, there was a time when looking out for yourself did benefit your self. This time is coming to a close, our self is now increasingly dependent on society as a whole.

I believe that if one decides to impose ones moral beliefs on another regarding the birth of their child, that person must then be willing to involve ones self beyond the birth as well. All too often I notice that pro-lifers demand the protection of a life inside the womb, but once the child exits the womb that protection ends and the parent is all alone. Not all children are born to wealthy and functional familes, some families are ill equiped for raising a child, pro-lifers seem to prefer the slow death of a child to the merci-killing of a fetus. The argument that the parent should not have put themselves or a child into the situation in the first place is not always valid, nor is it retroactive, the argument alone does not prevent what has happened from happening. That said, I believe that in order for pro-lifers to be logically consistant they must be willing to collectively, along with the parent, support the child up to adulthood. And the answer is not through church based social services, the services provided must be secular.

Imagine these two scenarios. You take the current state of your mind and replicate it to form another mind (biological or not), while simultaneously destroying the original. Now compare this process to something a little more subtle but with exactly the same affect: Slowly replacing parts of you mind with artificial components that behave exactly as the original biological components (instead of replacing the entire mind at once, doing it piecewise by destroying parts and replacing with new parts. Interestingly this is what our mind goes through naturally). Most would say that the latter would result in a seamless transition that the mind would not notice whereas the former would certainly be noticed and not as seamless. Why should these two processes be experienced in two different ways when in fact they are essentially identical?

The difference is that the Deniers, if they had it their way and they end up being wrong, then the world will be inhospitable to humans. If the Alarmists had it THEIR way and THEY end up being wrong, we will be left with a cleaner and healthier planet, a whole new market sector devoted to green technology, and a better way of managing the finite amount of resources available locally.

The thing is, change is hard, it takes work. Humans resist self-motivated change naturally, in fact all living things do (Because self-motivated change is a uniquely human trait). Change occurs only when those who fail to change when it is necessary die, and the others adapt and live. Its very basic, nature exerts a pressure of some kind and living things either react by changing into different living things or by turning into dead things, thats the reaction to natures action. It is not responsible for humans, who now have the power of foresight, to sit idle and await natures action. We have the power to react prior to the action. Obviously our understanding of nature is limited, and in fact likely not close to being complete. But we must work with the tools of understanding we have developed now, and with the differences stated above it is extremely irresponsible and supremely harmful to be a Denier.

The motivation for being an Alarmist is to save the world for humanity.

our two party system of government has become deeply flawed and is now damaged goods. both sides, democrat and republican, are now tightly controlled by special interest and corporate groups. our government no longer represents the people, its citizens. the gap between upper and middle class is widening at an alarming rate and something needs to be done to stop it. are society is meant to reward hard work and innovation, that is no longer so. our society now only rewards money, if you have it you will get more, if you dont have it you never will. we are on track to becoming an aristocracy, in particular a hereditary plutocracies. something the middle class can do before it gets out of hand is vote independant, and not vote for the tainted democrats or republicans. many will say that such a vote is wasted, that they would rather vote for a lesser of two evils. this vote would not be wasted if you did some type of campaigning, a simple post like i just did (the only reason i decided to post that is at all) or something more. anything.

went to the tigers game with heather and richard and his uncle. we were in the third row right behind the tigers dugout, very excellent seats. it rained for most of the game however, but the tigers managed to win it in a thriller. we then headed over to the hockeytown cafe, had some 'za. had someone ask us if we were physicians, apperently somebody calapsed somewhere, we werent so we continued to eat our 'za. thats it.
